Willem de Vos measures up! The Resource reports that he has the top billing at Wageningen UR with an impressive h-factor of 77. Fons Stams and Michiel Kleerebezem in the top 20! The Laboratory of Microbiology is proud to have no less than 3 professors on the list of the top 20 Wageningen UR academics with the highest h-factor. Fons and Michiel occupy the 14th and 17th places. The list can be found on page 13 of Resource no. 10 (12 January).
Willem de Vos and John van der Oost on TV On 19 October at 20.50 hrs, Willem de Vos was on the Dutch television programme Labyrint on the channel Nederland 2. The VPRO television crew was at the Laboratory of Microbiology on 20 September to film the footage for this segment.

And on 23 November at 20.50 hrs, John van der Oost appeared on the same programme. Footage for this segment was filmed in the United States at Yellowstone National Park.

Two awards for Dr Matthijs Jore Based on his thesis "CRISPR-mediated anti-viral defense in prokaryotes", Matthijs Jore has recently won 2 awards. The DSM Award (3rd place), a reward for outstanding young researchers who have recently obtained their PhD and who are conducting innovative research with clear potential for practical applications, and the 2011 Nat Sternberg Thesis Prize (1st place) for the most outstanding PhD thesis in prokaryotic molecular genetics.
